Your own
real, unique, stand-alone domain
name (www.yourname.com)? |
ü |
?
Caution: Some web designers tack your so-called "domain name" onto their
web site. This saves them the cost of domain name registration, but you
still pay a price: your website has a long, cumbersome name, such as
www.cheapwebdesigns.com/yourname. It looks cheap, it's too long, and
it's not "you". You want your own separate, stand-alone domain name that
makes you look professional and that you can take with you if you change
web masters. |

Web hosting... getting your site on
the web and keeping it there 24/7? Remember, our packages provide
you with 100% of what's needed to get you on the web, including a
year's worth of web hosting. |
ü |
?
Caution: Make sure you're not comparing our complete package prices with
prices that include web design only. If you get web design only, you'll
still have the cost (and hassle) of shopping for and getting a domain name
and a host. |

Server size 35 meg and up? This
refers to how big your website can be on your host's server before you
have to "upgrade" to a larger size (extra cost and hassle). There are no
rules of thumb --- it depends on your plans --- but you probably don't
want anything less than 10 meg. We provide 35 meg for the same flat price,
which is more than adequate for most people and offers a good cushion for
future growth, especially if you might use a lot of images. |
ü |
?
Caution: Watch out for being undersold or oversold. If you get too little
space, you'll have to upgrade when you expand your site significantly
(with upgrade charges). On the other hand, you don't want to pay for 250
meg if you don't need it, even at a bargain price per meg. |

Easy-to-read, quick loading website
design? |
ü |
?
Caution: Too many website designers go nuts with the bells and whistles
(too wordy, gobs of photos, slick special effects, etc.). These might look
nice on the surface, but they usually cause your site to load too
slowly... frustrating your visitors or prompting them to just move on.
Good indicator: See how fast the first page of their website
opens up. You may be unpleasantly surprised. |
